At 110, Richard Overton is believed to be the oldest World War II veteran in the U.S. and thanks to many generous donations, heâll going to be able to stay in his Austin, Texas home for at least a few more months. So far, over $133,000 has been raised through a GoFundMecampaign, with a goal of $150,000.
Overton has been living in his beloved home for more than 70 years, but when his caretaker started having issues related to her own aging, his family was afraid theyâd need to move the vet to an assisted living facility. âWe all knew that if you move Richard out of his home, heâd die,â his cousin Volma Overton, Jr. says. âThat home is everything for him.â
So his family created the crowdfunding campaign to raise money to get Overton around-the-clock in-home care. And with the money theyâve gotten so far, heâll be able to stay another seven months! We hope the funds keep coming in to help this veteran stay in the home he knows and loves for as long as heâs walking, talking, and enjoying it.
