Now that the Great American Eclipse is over, youâre probably thinking your plastic viewing glasses are just a flimsy souvenir. But donât throw them away because thereâs a way you can recycle them and help bring science education to kids in Asia and South America.
California-based charity Astronomers Without Borders put out a request on their Facebook page for our used, undamaged eclipse glasses so they can give them out to little ones on other continents when they have a chance to see a total solar eclipse in 2019.
âThis is an opportunity for schools to have a first-hand science experience that they might not otherwise have,â explains Astronomers Without Borders president Mike Simmons. âMany schools in developing countries donât have resources for science education and this is a rare opportunity that inspires students and teachers.â
